playing with the new camera
Holy wow!

I took this from my front stoop, and I guess the feeder is about 15-20 feet away? I zoomed it all the way in, then cropped the pic. Click the pic below to see it much much larger. O.o (The original full image size is 3072x2034 px.)

I love long weekends
My weekend in bullet points and pics. :)

1. Yesterday we went to Ikea. It turns out that all of South Florida was there too. Of course! What else do you do on a 3 day weekend but redecorate? The daughter has needed a new bed forever, so we took down the old bunk beds that came from our former parsonage, and bought her a nice full size that she had picked out a while back. Sheets and a comforter, too, and we finally got the drapes up that we bought ages ago.

Here she is in Jonas Heaven )

2. When hub was picking up screws and anchors for the curtain rods, he also picked up the bolt I needed to fix the Elliptical strider. So now I can really start working out here at home. It's too bloody hot to walk during the day, and too dangerous at night.

3. Two and a half years ago I bought a Canon A430 Power Shot for our trip across country. If you remember, we'd been burgled and I had nothing to take with us to Las Vegas or the Grand Canyon. It's been a great little camera, but it died a few weeks ago during the Jaci Velasquez show. It seems to do all right (so far) with a flash indoors, but in outdoors? Nada but a bright washed out image. I thought it was the cheap SD card, but it wasn't.

I poked around online and found a new Canon that I really liked, but the price was just too steep and I wasn't willing to settle for a 3x or 4x zoom this time just to keep the price down. I'd made up my mind to go camara-less to the Jonas show with the daughter this week until I read today's sale ad for Circuit City.

I found this for less than half the price of the other. It's a Fujifilm S700 )

7.1 megapixels, 10x optical zoom. It has a natural light setting that let me take this. It was in our family room which is dark paneling and very poor light. It adjusted for the deficiency. Also, I was a good eight feet away.

a kitty, what else? )

Almost forgot, we also picked up a pillow topper for our bed yesterday while at Ikea. It was deemed acceptable by the Queen Mother.

Bow down to the Queen )

So, no more spending money for me. For a looong time. lol.

Tomorrow we have to clean up the boxes and stuff that the bed pieces were packed in, and deliver the bunk beds to a man from our church. He's raising his five grandchildren alone, they're all between the ages of 3 and 9. The oldest is a boy, the rest are girls. God bless him.

* * *

If you're in the path of Gustav, I hope you have evacuated long before now. My prayers are with all of you for your safety and for your safe return home.

For those in the potential path of Hanna, the same prayers are with you.

TGIF
And a long weekend to boot. *\o/*

Off to work, today will be spent by the industrial strength copier/printer in the warehouse doing two mass mailing jobs. Yes, because this is part of my job description as "proof reader and text editor".

Whatever, it's grunt work and I'm on the low end of the totem pole, but seriously? I'm getting paid for it so you don't see me really complaining. It also means I won't be tied to my desk and I'll have an excuse to not do anything else while I'm there. I have to watch things print and reload the company letterhead paper when it runs out.

*yawn*

But like I said, three day weekend! Whee!!!!

BSB London webcast for iPod (split files)
I reuploaded the London Webcast.

It has been split into 8 parts using HJ-Split.

Download all of the files into the same directory (do not rename them!), then open that directory and double-click on file 1 to join them together into one large file. These will NOT play as individual files.

You probably need HJ SPlit to make it work, but it's a free d/l, here.

Each file is 50Mb except for the last, it is only around 2k.

These files will be good until Auust 31.

this way to the links )

no jury in the world would convict me.
So there we were folding laundry, my daughter and I. You remember, the one I waxed poetic about yesterday? Mm hmm, that same one.

It was a mixed load, and included a few things of our son's that she had swiped while he was home on leave last winter. She picks up a pair of olive drab shorts, holds them up and says: "Wow! I didn't realize his ass was that big!"

She finally realized, based on my silence and the death glare emanating from my eyes, that they were my shorts. Not her brother's.

And on a much funnier note ...

Yes, in case there was any doubt, that last one struck a nerve. lol.

School days, school days ...
So, another school year has begun. My baby is a 7th grader this year. Not much has changed, since she was in Middle School beginning last year in 6th grade, but she's older (so am I) and is growing into her body (so am I, never you mind!)

I luff her to death and I'm so proud of her.

First day of school, 7th grade )

Last year's entry (with pics from 5th grade, too) can be found here. I guess she HAS changed. Holy frijole.

Edit: The link is fixed now, thanks Heidi!

Please don't share this link outside of LJ. I converted this myself, and I had to upload it to my own server. Feel free to zip it or whatever and re-upload it and post the new link. It was converted using Vidoera iPod Converter which is a free and stupidly easy to use program. *g*

Right click, save-as.

I'm outta here for work, so if there's a problem I'll check in later this afternoon.

storm update and a ton of other stuff
Well, the first day of school in Miami-Dade county has been cancelled for tomorrow. They're not certain whether or how much Fay will strengthen over the next 12 hours, and in any case the worst of our weather will come in the early to mid-afternoon while kids are either still in school or being transported home by bus.

My work however, has not been cancelled. Worst case scenario is that I'll go in for an hour or two and check my email, and let my writers know what's going on should they be trying to reach me. Hee. "My writers." Cool, yes? *g* I'm in the mid to final stages of being the text editor for a huge teacher's manual for string classes (strings being violin, viola, cello, and bass). I've worked directly with the authors on all 18 units, the huge preface, and the appendix. I'm also doing the proofreading for the two layout editors once they have plugged in all of the musical examples and such.

Last night's baseball game was tons of fun! We won the game (sorry [info]jstabe!) and the concert after was great! Our pastor got all of us wristbands that allowed us onto the field and my daughter and I were about four rows/people back from the stage. Jaci Velaquez was amazing, and so adorable. My pictures bite because my el cheapo memory card started dying, but I might see if I can clean them up a little and post a few anyway.

We got home well after midnight and I was up until 1:30 putting together mine and the pastor's pics for a slideshow this morning. Sleep didn't happen until after 2 am. Of course, then we overslept and didn't wake up till almost 8:30 when our Marine Son™ called. He sounded good, we all sounded groggy and foggy. He asked us to stop sending mail because it might not get there before he leaves. \o/ !!!!! His eta is still the first week of October, and it takes a good three weeks for even letters to get to him. Whee!!!!!!!

and so it begins
Headed to the grocery store to restock on some basics in case t.s. Fay decides to become a full-blown hurricane in the next day or so. We stocked up on most things earlier in the summer, but need some immedite things like a loaf of bread, some sandwich fixins that would survive a few days of no power, and stuff like that.

Florida Marlins baseball game tonight with the church, beginning with a tailgate party, t-shirts for everyone (that I was in charge of getting made and I didn't screw them up! go me!!!), and a concert afterward featuring Jaci Velasquez (Christian recording artist) and ending with fireworks. w00t!!!

Catch you later!

wow, right on.

Your result for The Perception Personality Image Test...

NFPS - The Guru

Nature, Foreground, Big Picture, and Shape

You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on what's in front of you (the foreground) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the shapes around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to deal directly with whatever comes your way without dealing with speculating possibilities or outcomes you can't control. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You prefer a structured environment within which to live and you like things to be predictable.
